Event Correlation

« Back to Glossary Index

Event correlation is the process of aggregating events and analyzing relationships between them in order to “reduce the noise.” To the extent detection of anomalous events generates alerts, event correlation is synonymous with alert correlation. In the context of AIOps, event correlation refers to the use of machine learning analytics (algorithms) to identify and report correlated events, rather than relying on a manually driven rules-based detection approach. Gartner uses IT Event Correlation & Analysis (ETA) to describe event correlation processes and technologies.
