Expert Systems

« Back to Glossary Index

An expert system is a computer system that emulates the decision-making ability of a human expert. Expert systems are designed to solve complex problems by reasoning through bodies of knowledge, represented mainly as if–then rules rather than through conventional procedural code. [Wikipedia]. In the context of AIOps, expert system concepts may be leveraged in performing root cause analysis and identifying remediation actions. Expert system techniques incorporate a knowledgebase of human input that is informed by domain awareness and can be used in the development of rule-based processes and their execution.
