Static Threshold

« Back to Glossary Index

Static thresholds refers to thresholds that are set manually by users of traditional monitoring software tools. Static thresholds do not adjust automatically based on normal, expected fluctuations in system behavior. The result is a deluge of alerts, many of which are meaningless and result in alert fatigue. This leads in turn to many alerts, including important ones, being ignored. See also Alert Fatigue, Behavior Profiling, Dynamic Threshold.
