Time Series Analysis

« Back to Glossary Index

A time series is a series of data points indexed in time order. Most commonly, a time series is a sequence taken at successive equally spaced points in time. Thus, it is a sequence of discrete-time data [Wikipedia]. In the context of AIOps, time series analysis is used to develop profiles of normal or expected system behavior so that statistical anomalies in that behavior can be detected and evaluated for immediate remedial action. Time series analysis data may also be used to predict future anomalies in order to take proactive preventive measures before an incident impacts users.
